Affordable Housing and Services Collaborative, Peabody Properties, Windover Construction and Community Hope team up to bring new veterans housing and services to New Jersey

Affordable Housing and Services Collaborative, Inc. (AHSC) today announced that The Home Depot Foundation has awarded a $300,000 grant in support of Valley Brook Village II, which will provide permanent, supportive housing for homeless and at-risk veterans.

Affordable Housing and Services Collaborative, Inc. (AHSC) today announced that The Home Depot Foundation has awarded a $200,000 grant in support of the Howard House in Brockton, which will provide permanent, supportive housing for homeless and at-risk veterans.

Last week, AHSC received a “Community Quarterback” Recognition Award from the Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation for its intended use of grant funds to assist formerly homeless U.S. Veterans residing at the Pleasant Street Apartments in Beverly, MA, 32 furnished units of permanent affordable housing with on-site case management and other wrap-around supportive services, managed by Peabody Properties, Inc. AHSC will utilize Eastern Bank Foundation grant funds to provide transportation access for the Veterans to participate in the VA’s Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) program offered at the Edith Norse VA Medical Center in Bedford, MA.

Affordable Housing and Services Collaborative, Inc. (AHSC) today announced that The Home Depot Foundation has awarded a $500,000 grant in support of the Bedford Green development, which will provide permanent, supportive housing for homeless and at-risk veterans.

AHSC and development partners Peabody Properties, Inc. and Windover Construction plan to construct 70 units of permanent, supportive housing with priority occupancy for homeless and at-risk veterans, ages 55 and older. The Bedford Green development will be built on the current site of the Veterans Association’s Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Today, AHSC received a competitive grant award from Eastern Bank’s Charitable Foundation in the amount of $10,000. The grant will be used towards eliminating transportation barriers for U.S. Veterans residing at the Pleasant Street Apartments in Beverly, MA. AHSC’s Executive Director, Michael Mattos said “The goal of the grant is to provide additional and improved opportunities for Veterans to access employment, training and counseling services offered by the regional VA Medical Center in Bedford, MA.”  AHSC previously served as a lender of historic tax credit equity for Pleasant Street Apartments, a 32-unit adaptive reuse project that provides supportive housing for formerly homeless U.S. Veterans.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Affordable Housing and Services Collaborative, Inc. (AHSC) closed on Friday, May 9, 2014 on its financing with Mass Housing and the state’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF) for the acquisition and full-scale renovation of Middlebury Arms, an existing 64-unit multifamily property located in Middleborough, MA. Mass Housing will provide tax-exempt construction and permanent financing, as well as soft debt totaling $9.2 million. Construction on the renovation will commence immediately by NEI General Contracting, Inc. and will take approximately 9 months to complete. The Architectural Team (TAT) is the project’s architect, and the property will continue to be professionally managed by Peabody Properties, Inc.

The property was originally built in the 1970’s and financed under HUD’s 236 program, which required certain income restrictions for occupancy. The new financing program for the property includes the use of low-income housing tax credits, as well as other soft debt sources, which provides additional income restrictions that will extend the affordability of the units for Middleborough families for many years ahead. Mass Housing Executive Director Thomas R. Gleason stated it perfectly in a recent quote included in a Mass Housing press release by saying “Middlebury Arms has been in need of a complete makeover for some time now and this financing will restore the property into a top-quality affordable apartment community for the residents who live there.”
